TOILE DU JOUY FEAT. SHOP CIDER

For a city girlie, I sure do like Toile de Jouy. I was recently curious about the origin of the fabric, so I did a little digging. “Toile de Jouy” literally means fabric of Jouy, an area in France that sits just outside of Versailles. The very recognizable fabric was created by an artisan from the area, Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf. Upon looking closer, you’ll see that the pattern includes a bunch of pasture scenes illustrated in a variety of colors that tell the everyday stories of the characters living in the fabric. There’s something so chic and elegant about Toile de Jouy, so I’ve been loving styling it — like I did here with this corset Cider (similar here). It’s a nice combo of vintage style and modern shapes. Toile de Jouy itself is exactly as it sounds — it’s a pattern that’s playful yet elegant and elevated. I definitely need some more Toile de Jouy pieces in my wardrobe.

I paired the corset top with my fave pair of jeans from Abercrombie, and a cropped white sweater (similar here), strappy sandals, and oval sunnies.

Leaving you with a quote from the bard that I think nicely reflects what Toile de Jouy embodies:

“All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts.”
