APRIL FAVORITES
Whew! April was a busy one. Busy with work, events, and ushering in the close of Sean’s MBA journey. I’m super excited for warmer weather, and I also think this month has been giving us a little taste of that here and there which I appreciate. The craziest thing has been the past few weeks I just keep seeing butterflies everywhere — real ones, fake ones, posters of ones, just non-stop. I’d like to think it’s a little wink from Lindsey telling me to keep at all the things. I so appreciate that. I also wrote some pretty cool stories this month, like this one and this one — definitely give ‘em a read in your spare time! More to come. Without further ado, here are some things I’ve been loving this month!
fashion
Leopard Print Spring Maxi Dress — I’ll be honest, this one IRL is a little more pink than expected, but like all things recently, I’m challenging myself to just accept it and move on! LOL. It’s actually quite pretty, super comfy and I’m excited to style it this summer. It can easily be a fun wedding dress (we have 2 weddings this summer!) or can be dressed down with some sneakers for a more chill vibe (you guys know how I usually feel about sneakers + dresses or skirts, so this is big for me!!)
Princess Polly Mavie Set in Champagne — Ummm I am not a festival girlie at all but if I was, I’d definitely be wearing this set to one! Really though, I got this on sale this week and am so thrilled I did because I can’t wait to style the pieces separately and together. I love the fabric, the champagne hue and the lace details. I think this would look killer with some cowboy or combat boots, or even dainty sandals to dress it up a bit. Stay tuned though because you’ll be seeing me in this a lot in the coming months!
accessories
Vintage Cocktail Bag — Truly this bag is one-of-a-kind, but here’s a similar black evening bag pick. This bag was handed down to me from my mother, who got it from my grandmother, who got it from, that’s right, her mother, aka my great-grandmother! I have no idea where it’s from but it’s an interesting nylon texture that’s still super chic and strctured. It has this pretty gold flower clasp and has been particularly useful recently with all of the end-of-year NYU events I’ve gone to with Sean. It’s missing some fabric on the right corner as you can see, but that gives it some character so I don’t really mind. This bag could easily be almost 100 years old, and that’s pretty cool!
Clip On Flower Kit — I got sooo many compliments on this dress that I wore to the NYU event at the Plaza, and methinks it’s all to do with this little flower clip! I wore a black wrap Princess Polly dress and popped this little sucker on for some dimension and texture, and to make it feel a little more spring. It came out perfect which is why these $12 flower clips are a must in my book!!
Leaving you with a little Shakespeare sagacity for Spring, love and lust:
“‘Love comforteth like sunshine after rain, but lust’s effect is tempest after sun;
Love’s gentle spring doth always fresh remain, lust’s winter comes ere summer half be done.
Love surfeits not, Lust like a glutton dies;”
[Venus + Adonis 799-804]
Cheers to May! xx - A. Martine
