THE STORM FEAT. AMAZON FASHION
This month marks six since my dear, old friend Lindsey left this world. If you ask pretty much any of her friends what type of art reminds them of her, all would say the same: it’s easily Rococo. Rococo artwork is as mystical as it sounds — nods of baroque details mixed with a Renaissance-appeal— scenes of dreamy forests, ornate dresses and vibrant colors are just a few of their outstanding characteristics. About a century later, Pierre August Cot completed The Storm, one of Lindsey’s absolute favorites. This painting is interesting to me because it totally captures that dreamy Rococo vibe over 100 years later. It’s an image of a girl and her assumed boyfriend running from a storm, and he’s using, what looks like the overskirt of her dress to shield them. It speaks volumes about life. We run from all the storms, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get rained on. All we can do is protect ourselves in the best way possible. This painting was a sign to me when I was searching for a new nail salon on the UES. There it was, hanging on the wall of the third salon I’d visited since we moved in, like a little wink from Lindsey above. Needless to say, I think I found my new salon.
Inspired by this painting, and the Lindsey’s love for Rococo style, I recently dressed up a bit in this look and thought it was a great representation of the trend. The best part about this whole look was that it’s basically all Amazon fashion finds! The first is this super affordable brown corset top I got last fall that I’m obsessed with. Next is this short split hem skirt, also under $30. My shoes are old Steve Madden (similar here), and bag is a cute saddle purse from Etsy.
During one of our Shakespeare shows in high school, Lindsey was in a vignette from Merry Wives of Windsor. Leaving you with my favorite (and arguably the best) quote from it:
“Love like a shadow flies when substance love pursues, pursuing that that flies, and flying what pursues.”
