A NOD TO BOTTICELLI’S ANGELS FEAT. STORETS
Seriously, why hasn’t walking around dressed like a Renaissance painting been on-trend before? I’ve always loved Renaissance art (esp Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus!), so being able to channel that so literally through clothes is pretty cool. The romantic colors, soft lines and picturesque environments tell stories, and even though this type of work is beautiful, it’s also important to note that it’s surrealistic. It reminds us of the differences between human nature and godly-imagery — and that’s ok though. It’s not supposed to be humanistic — it’s supposed to be fantastical which makes it fun to look at. I love this art because we don’t necessarily see a reflection of ourselves in it.
Plus, It also reminds me of walking through the Uffizi Galleries in Italy, which, well you can’t not love if you’ve been.
The moment I saw this Storets Dakota Printed Cami Dress I knew I had to have it! To ground the look a little more (and add a layer since it was a little chilly out), I opted to pair it over this Free People Black Bodysuit, a black crocodile bag and black Docs. I also paired it with a black velvet headband, and this gorgeous crystal necklace from Swarovski. I’ve gotten a few Q’s on where it’s from but can’t find the exact link (wah) but here’s one that’s really similar.
To honor the fantastical imagery of Botticelli, here’s a Shakespeare quote that I think fits nicely.
“We all are men, in our own natures frail, and capable of our flesh; few are angels.”
[Henry VIII 3.5]
