TOPSHOP TREASURE TROVE
If you're no stranger to this blog, you'll know that I am totally obsessed with antiquing. I always love finding one-of-a-kind items with crazy background stories. Not only is it cool to possess really interesting objects like this – it's even cooler to pass them down. Thanks to my family's knack for organization and hoarding, I've acquired incredible passed-down items throughout the years – everything from an 1864-year-old-shawl to a 1920s derby hat and so much more. Because I shot this look in an antique yard, I knew I had to pay tribute to some of the cool things passed down in my family and their stories (see below for some cool heirloom items).
For the 21st century outfit here, I started with this killer Low Bow Back Bodysuit from Topshop – which is, I kid you not, on sale for 10 dollars right now. It's super comfy and excellent for the summer-to-fall transition weather coming up, and I could not be happier with it. I paired the suit with these sleek leather shorts from Urban Outfitters a couple of years ago, (no longer online but here's some great pairs). For this chilly mountain night, I brought a long my favorite Babetown Satin Bomber, and added one of my favorite red-lip colors for a little flair.
Below are some sick heirlooms I came upon recently while helping to clean out my grandmother's house. One is a postcard from my great-grandpa to great-grandma before they got married in 1929 – while probably many other factors were vital in their eventual marriage (or as one would hope lol), I like to think that in a way, this little postcard is one of the reasons for my existence (isn't that mind-blowing!?) The second photo includes their respective passports – clearly, I've inherited my great-grandma's very serious and kickass disposition (hah!)
"Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore, so do our minutes hasten to their end" (a lil' depressing, Shakes, but so poetic).
