PARALLELS FT. AMAZON FASHION

I just finished reading Holly, a relatively new Stephen King novel about one of my favorite characters. I got to know Holly while reading The Outsiders (another good one) and instantly fell in love with her — she’s witty, a little sassy, and very introspective. I wrote a blog post about her a while ago as well, talking about how I loved her as a modern female detective. Holly, the novel, presents all the classic characteristics of a Stephen King novel: enticing characters, lots of quips from the protagonist herself, and of course an element of horror. Throughout the book, King pulls his typical easter eggs, and one of them is a joke Holly references at different points throughout her timeline. It goes something like this: “A new millionaire walks into a bar, and orders a Mai Tai,” continues on and changes every time she says it throughout (don’t want to spoil it!). I couldn’t help but of course picture Jack Torrance at the Overlook Hotel’s Bar at that moment. Imbibing and joking with the ghostly bartender and party guests. I love that King always weaves in a descriptor or image that so strikingly references another one in his collection: a parallel that tells two different stories.

With parallels in mind, I went for satin on satin with this look I styled up in the Catskills a few weeks ago. I started with 1/2 of this Amazon Fashion Set — I love the maxi-length skirt and satin-brown finish. I then opted to pair it with a silk scarf I also picked up on Amazon (it’s a four-piece set!) instead of its counterpart top. I love how big these scarves are — makes them super easy to tie into a top. I wrapped the look up with my Prada Tessuto bag, strappy-heeled sandals, and sunnies. These pieces, similar to that quote in Holly are referential to each other in their similar silk fabric, but different enough to tell their own stories. Leaving you with one of my favorite quotes from the Bard about a parallel that aptly describes the feeling of love:

“My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.”
