FAIRYCORE FT. AMAZON FASHION
Fairies are a literary staple and for good reason: Shakespeare used them as plot devices in Midsummer Night’s Dream to not only cause havoc to the protagonists, but to also further along a few subplots overarching themes of the tale. Fairies are both playful and mischievous, which makes trends that lean into ‘fairycore’ fashion so fun. Ruffles, pastels and three-dimensional tassels are all clear definers of fairycore fashion, and I played my hand at styling the trend a few weeks back over Mother’s Day Weekend.
I first started with this 1/2 of an Amazon Fashion set — it’s a light purple hue with faint rainbow graphic design that has a ton of texture with the ruffle details. It screams fairycore (and is a little girly for my typical style) so I decided to ground the look a bit with this wrapped sweater cropped top I got from Cider a few years back (similar here). It just adds a little bit of structure and maturity to the look a la Titania in MND — she might be a fairy, but she’s the queen of the fairies and she looks it! I paired this look with my favorite Jeffrey Campbell Dagget Boots, a black shoulder bag and tortoise sunglasses.
This look is proof that fairies can be fun, but mean business too!
“Come, now a roundel and a fairy song; then, for the third part of a minute, hence; some to kill cankers in the musk-rose buds, some war with rere-mice for their leathern wings, to make my small elves coats, and some keep back the clamorous owl that nightly hoots and wonders at our quaint spirits. Sing me now asleep”
