MOD DORTHY FEAT. SHOP CIDER

The Wizard of Oz is a story very near and dear to me. I grew up watching the 1939 film so many times, I could practically recite it. Was I frightened by the flying monkey’s? Yes. Did I love Glinda’s floating bubble entrance? I was enthralled to say the least. And was I somehow always trying to understand why the Wicked Witch of the West was so mean? As I got older, definitely. The movie is imprinted in my soul, and so is Wicked in a lot of ways (I have Lindsey to thank for that). I always loved the unabashed style and the way Dorothy, Glinda and Elphaba really owned their respective styles. Both the Wizard of Oz and Wicked are coded with women’s empowerment and resilience. So, I decided to do do my little take on a mod Dorothy a few weeks back, and I loved how it turned out so much, I’ll probably be rocking this outfit formula for months to come.

I started with this two piece sweater number from Shop Cider. A fun fact, I now have this sweater in not one, not two, but in three colors (I know I know). I then paired it with a similarly memorable to Dorothy’s checked brown pleated skirt, which is actually one half of a set (more on that in my November Favorites). I topped the look off with a cozy black leather jacket to edge it up a bit, and paired it all with creamy white boots and a white ribbon in my hair, as a homage to Dorothy in the movie. I also added a red lip as a little reference to her in the movie as well—while she doesn’t have a stark, pigmented red lip, her lips and cheeks are always quite rosy.

“For where is any author in the world teaches such beauty as a woman's eye?”
