MIRRORLAND FEAT. SHOP CIDER
I just finished a book called Mirrorland, by Carole Johnstone, and boy it was an interesting treat. Without giving too much away, the protagonist Cat learns that her twin sister El has gone missing, and she travels back to their home country, Scotland, to put together missing pieces on where she went and what exactly happened to her. This book is full of twists and turns, but perhaps the most striking part of it is the resurgence of a magical, mystical world of the twins’ childhood imagination, called Mirrorland. The role that Mirrorland plays is a pivotal one to the plot and also brings you back to the nostalgia of make-believe as a child. The cupboards of their childhome home translated to various locations within Mirrorland, where their various ‘imaginary’ friends lived, and where they had many wonderful (and many horrible memories) — a true harbor of nostalgia. And nostalgia was what I was going for with this look with lots of texture, a little whimsy and a red lip.
I started with this really cute vintage-looking Floral Shirred Lace Layered Mini Skirt by Shop Cider — and paired it with this Ruched One Shoulder Crop Tank Top in Brown. The bottom gives a baby-doll-esque vibe I’m loving, mixed with an early 2000s scrunch-skirt — basically my overall summer aesthetic for this season! I paired it all with these Jeffrey Campbell Periwinkle Blue Denim heels — probably one of the cutest pairs of shoes I own to date, and a striking red lip. I felt like I was playing a little bit of dress up like the times I did when I still shopped at Limited Too — and it’s that very nostalgia that I want to channel more and more in my outfits this year.
