Ok let’s be real — Scooby Doo was my favorite cartoon growing up (big surprise, right). One of the TV-movie length episodes I don’t think I’ll ever forget is Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost — and if you, too, are a Scooby Doo aficionado, you’ll know that this is the by far best Halloween-inspired story in all the series. I’ll tell you that I don’t recall too many details of the actual crime that took place (lol should I make Sean suffer through a re-watch this weekend?!), but there’s one aspect forever ingrained in my noggin: the Hex Girls, obviously. I think they were incriminated due to their super spooky style but they turned out to (spoiler alert) not be as bad as they looked.

Anyway, long story short, I haven’t been able to get their catchy Hex Girl theme out of my brain these past few weeks (yes, it’s on Spotify definitely add to your Halloween playlist), so I think this is what subconsciously influenced me when I put together this look. I first started with this black bodysuit from Danielle Bernsteinpro tip: I actually got it for like $18 thanks to 260 Sample Sale because I like how it almost looks witchy, and a little Victorian with the corseted, round bust lines. Next, I paired it with this amazing skirt I picked up at Storets last fall. I was about to find the actual one on Poshmark, here — but here’s another that’s similar and would be cute. Last but not least, I finished out the look with my Fendi Mini Double F, a thick black headband and these amazing burgundy combat boots from H&M. I think if I was a real life Hex Girl in 2021, I’d also look incriminating enough to be a Scooby Doo villain so basically #goals.

Leaving you with a little witchy quote from a classic —

“And I, the mistress of your charms, The close contriver of all harms, Was never call'd to bear my part, Or show the glory of our art?”

[Macbeth IV.I]

✨ fun Shakes fact — It is believed that a writer, Thomas Middleton, wrote all of the witch prose in Macbeth — to make the play more appealing to audiences.

Cheers, x

A.Martine — aka the long lost Hex Girl? lol
